Irregular Verbs Christmas Writing Activity

Use this irregular verbs Christmas activity to discover, practice and review irregular verbs while also doing a small writing activity!

The 10 free gifts of Christmas keeps on giving. Use this irregular verbs Christmas activity to discover, practice or review irregular verbs with your students in this Christmas-themed matching game. Students can play as individually, in pairs, in small groups or as a class as they match what is being said to one of the four characters on the worksheet: Santa, the elf, girl on the naughty list, girl on the nice list. That’s the simple part, of course. Once they finish up with that, have every student write down something each character would say on separate bits of paper (or in the group chat). Pick one out at random and read it to the class so they can match it to who said it!

You could have them write whatever they want without any restrictions, or you could make them use irregular verbs only. Up to you 🙂

You’ll probably be able to easily choose the correct answers for yourself, but just in case, here’s what we decided made sense for this Christmas activity:

Santa:

  • It wasn’t easy, but I flew all around the world in 24 hours.
  • I can’t remember if I put you on the naughty or nice list.
  • I slid down the chimney and set the presents under the Christmas tree.
  • A dog bit me while I was delivering presents!
  • Oh no! I lost some weight this year!

The elf:

  • I built all the toys under your Christmas tree!
  • I chose the decorations for Santa’s sleigh this year.
  • I fed the reindeers before their big journey.
  • I drew him a map, just in case.
  • Santa shook my hand after our work was done.

The girl on the naughty list:

  • I broke my sister’s favorite toy while we were playing and swore it was already broken.
  • Santa left coal in my stocking!
  • I ate all the cookies meant for Santa.
  • To avoid bedtime, I hid behind the couch.
  • Last night, I snuck into the living room to peek at the presents.

The girl on the nice list:

  • I read bedtime stories to my younger siblings every night this year.
  • I wrote a letter to Santa and told him that all I want for Christmas is for my mommy to have a good day.
  • I found $20 on the ground and gave it to my favorite charity.
  • I bought little gifts for my parents with my allowance.
  • I kept my room tidy and organized all winter.
