Odd One Out: Telling Time

Functional language: Telling Time
Topic: General

Use this online friendly telling time activity to practice converting a 24-hour clock to the standard 12-hour American hour system.

Here’s a skill we haven’t look at before on ESL Expertz: Telling time! This was actually a request from one of our Total Teacher Access members. Hope this telling online friendly telling time activity is helpful for you and many others!

Telling time follows our other Odd One Out activities: Each box has one false answer in it. Can your students figure it out? This PDF is interactive, so you can use it in your online classes or as homework.

Each box has a time in the blue displayed in the 24-hour clock format. It’s up to your students to be able to tell the time with a standard American 12-hour format. Be aware that we chose to use both past and after, as well as til and to.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
