Online ESL Discussion Worksheet: Why are Dutch people so tall?

Today you and your students will be talking about the genetics, specifically related to height and nationality. Even more specifically, the Dutch. Are they tall because they are rich? Or are they tall because they have superior genes?

If you like warmers (it’s basically my favorite part of the lesson), you could ask your students the following questions and ask for them to elaborate:

  1. Which country has the tallest people?
  2. Which country has the shortest people?
  3. Which country has the highest birth rates?
  4. Which country has the fattest people?
  5. Which country has the most athletic people?
  6. Which country has the smartest people?
  7. Which country has the most beautiful people?
  8. Which country has the most…

Okay, you get the idea.

Do the warmer and then watch the video once. Ask an open-ended question, such as “Tell me something you learned”
Then, distribute the PDF to your students. Watch the video again and then answer the questions as a class or in pairs.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
