Breaking News: Rugby World Cup

As the 2023 Rugby World Cup draws to a close, it’s finally time to learn the (basic) rules of the sport with your A2-B1 ESL students.

I had an ulterior motive behind this particular worksheet. I now live in a rugby obsessed region of the world but I was clueless about the sport. Until now. With the Rugby World Cup drawing to a close, I decided it was the best time to finally learn the (basic) rules. Apparently it gets more complicated after this, but I finally understand how the scoring works. This could be a good opportunity for you and your students to fill the hole of ignorance lying inside you, too. Learn the basic rules of rugby and talk about sports with your A2-B1 learners. I would say this works best for your more advanced A2’s and your less advanced B1’s, especially because listening comprehension is always tricky for this group of learners. Don’t hesitate to watch the video a few times!

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
