American vs. British Christmas traditions

Learn some key differences between American and British Christmas traditions and talk about traditions in general.

What makes a truly British Christmas? My only knowledge on the subject ever came from two films – Love Actually and the Harry Potter series. Something about paper hats, things that go pop, and… that’s about it. I never really ever thought about how the British celebrate Christmas or what their traditions and customs were. That’s why this little lesson plan was so fun to put together. I learned a lot! I imagine not every person from the UK celebrates it exactly like in the video, but it seemed to give a good overview of the subject. I’d be interested to know from out UK teachers what they would add or subtract to what’s in the video!

In any case, enjoy this short lesson plan and discussion worksheet on the differences between American and British Christmas traditions.
