Pet Peeve Prison: Advanced Gerund Phrases
Use a comedy sketch to discover advanced rules for using gerund phrases. Lots of fun and a nice surprise for your students.
With this 90-minute lesson plan your A2-B1 students will talk about annoying habits and learn to use advanced gerund phrases. Inside you will find a warm up activity, a listening comprehension activity (not just boring questions!), 2 vocabulary exercises (prison-themed vocabulary), a grammar sequence to discover or review gerund phrases, a grammar exercise where students use gerund phrases to create complex sentences, and a speaking activity at the end to put it all together in which students talk about annoying habits and give appropriate punishments.
The video can be found here. Foil, Arms and Hog is an Irish comedy trio and in this video, three inmates of a prison for annoying people talk about life in annoying prison. So, the video has the added bonus of listening to a new accent, and my personal favorite, the Irish accent!
