Second Conditional Board Game – Practice Hypothetical Situations in English!
Looking for an engaging and interactive way to practice the second conditional in your ESL classroom? This printable and online-friendly second conditional board game is designed to help students form grammatically correct hypothetical statements in a fun and competitive way!
How to Play
🟢 Start the Game – Students begin at the START bubble and take turns moving to connected bubbles.
🟢 Complete the Sentence – Each bubble contains the beginning of a second conditional statement, such as:
👉 “Tina would adopt a third cat if…”
👉 “If Brittany were smarter…”
👉 “If Veer wasn’t so short…”
🟢 Use a Verb from the List – Students finish the sentence using one of the available verbs. Each verb has an assigned point value, making some choices more rewarding than others!
🟢 Cross Out Used Verbs – Once a verb has been used, it can’t be chosen again, increasing the challenge as the game progresses.
🟢 Score Points and Advance – If the sentence is correct, the student scores points based on the verb used and moves to a connected bubble.
Optional Rule Variations
🔹 No Shared Bubbles – To increase difficulty, students cannot land on the same bubble as another player.
🔹 Timed Answers – Set a time limit for each response to encourage quick thinking.
🔹 Challenge Mode – Allow students to question or debate answers to ensure correct second conditional grammar.
