Online Friendly ESL Discussion Worksheet: Donated Clothes

PDF. Learn where our donated clothes are going once we discard them Use this ESL discussion worksheet with your students in a classroom or online.

Everyone has something from Zara or H&M in their closet. Some people have lots of it while some people have one or two socks, maybe a shirt they needed on the fly to replace something. There is no escaping it, but it’s good to be aware of how it affects the parts of the world you’ll never see. This ESL Donated Clothes Discussion Worksheet walks you and your students through the life cycle of a fast fashion garment and shows what happens on the other side of the world when it gets “donated”.

Use this ESL Discussion Worksheet however you’d like, but here’s what we recommend:

  1. Warm-up question: Tell us about the last article of clothing you bought. Where did it come from? How much did it cost? Why did you buy it? Etc.
  2. Watch the video once: Ask your students to tell you what they understood about the topic. The link to the video is also on the PDF.
  3. Vocabulary: Check out the vocabulary on the PDF and answer any questions.
  4. Watch the video again: Answer the questions on the PDF in pairs.
  5. Speaking Activity: Put students in pairs to complete the speaking activity – directions on the PDF.
  6. If you’ve still got time left over, put your students in new pairs or small groups and discuss the group activity.
