So you woke up today thinking about a “standing in line” themed lesson plan, because don’t we all wake up like this? But then you saw a picture of David Beckham while scrolling through Instagram and thought… I sure would like to incorporate this guy in my lesson plan today. And so you roll the dice and google “David Beckham standing in line worksheet” hoping beyond hope to stumble upon something truly special. And alas, here it is. The ESL Expertz present David Beckham standing in line worksheet. Use this with your A2-B2 students.

How to use this activity

There is a link in the PDF for the reading comprehension section of the activity (“Source”), but if you want to get a heads start click here >>

Print a copy for each pair or send the David Beckham standing in line PDF to your students.

Follow the prompts on the PDF, putting your students in new pairs each time if you want.

First, they will answer questions about standing in line in general, then read an article about David Beckham waiting for 12 hours in line with everyone else to see the queen. After that, pairs will discuss cutting in line and under which circumstances it is appropriate or not. If you live in Poland, you might have a lot of line cutting stories… How many times has a babcia magically appeared in front of you while waiting in line at the bakery!?

Page 2 contains a small activity you can do as a class which asks students how long they might wait in line for certain opportunities or gifts. Don’t let the conversation stop with just “2 hours”! Ask follow-up questions and push your students to elaborate and share ideas!

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
