The Average German Couple around Valentine’s Day
How does an average German couple fall in love? You finally get to know. No more sleepless nights!
While it might have been more romantic or colorful to look at, let’s say, an Italian or French couple, the German couple seemed so, well, average that it might resonate with a lot more people. This is the perfect Valentine’s Day ESL discussion worksheet for your intermediate to advanced speakers. The video is great and filled with lots of statistics, which makes for a dense question at the end of the listening comprehension section. The speaking activity is engaging and fun to talk about without expecting personal details. And the group activity of putting together a rule book for foreigners interested in dating someone from your country should end up being pretty fun! I’m super excited and will definitely be using it all week.
- Start with a warm-up question: Taking turns, write out the steps to an “average” relationship.
- Watch the video once: Compare your steps with what you saw in the video.
- Look at the vocabulary and then watch the video again with the subtitles.
- Put students in pairs to do the questions together.
- Put students in new pairs to do the speaking activity.
- If you have time, put students in groups of 3-4 to complete the group activity.
