A classic format to practice prepositions of place for beginners. Where am I in the mall? I’m in front of…
Sometimes you want to reinvent the wheel and come up with something completely new. Other times you look at that wheel and say, “But it’s perfect…” That’s how I feel about this Prepositions of Place Activity for Beginners: simply a classic format that has always worked and always will. To be a bit more original, I added the structure “on someone’s right/left” which you may need to quickly explain to your students. Remember, if you have two people (let’s say Mark and Allie) facing you, side by side, you could explain their position with “Mark is to the left of Allie.” (this would be from your perspective) or “Mark is on Allie’s right.” I added this because I think it’s good for students to be presented with early, as it’s something that seems very… English-y. How many times have we heard “MY RIGHT OR YOURS!?” in a movie?
Play as a class, in pairs, small groups, whatever you want. Once students get through the 9 clues already on the sheet, let them take turns coming up with their own locations and quizzing the class.
