Phrasal Verbs on Vacation

Functional language: Give advice
Grammar: Phrasal Verbs

Discover, practice and review 18 phrasal verbs on vacation for intermediate to advanced students. Each phrasal verb is presented within a bit of advice for your next vacation.

If you liked our City Break Phrasal Verbs for A2 students activity, but you’ve got some more advanced students who would like to discuss the same topic, then you’re really gonna flip your lid for this one.

This activity presents 18 different and less common phrasal verbs that your intermediate to advanced students will find very rewarding. They’ve mastered the basics, but now it’s time to go a little further down the phrasal verb rabbit hole with verbs such as turn up, pull over, ride around, take in, head back, etc.

The activity is presented as a fill-in-the-blank style exercise with students working individually or in pairs to correctly complete the phrasal verbs on the worksheet. Each phrasal verb is given in the context of advice for your vacation. Once students have completed the fill-in-the-blank portion and you’ve corrected as a class, put students in pairs to discuss the pieces of advice on the worksheet.

After some discussion time, have students, individually or as a group, come up with their own vacation advice using these phrasal verbs and present it to the class. As you’ll see, some of it is practical while some of it less so.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
