My First Book in English: An Ordinary Day

*NOW WITH A VIRTUAL VERSION*

What do you say to your A1 students when they ask for a book or story they could read at their level? Even Dr. Seuss is a bit advanced for our beginners when you think about it!

We’ve got the answer here in our first “Choose Your Own Adventure” style novel specifically crafted for A1+ students who have mastered (or are mastering) the very basics of the English language. Inside this PDF resource, you will find multiple ways to use this incredibly fun resource.

***A new VIRTUAL VERSION has just been added! Designed for screen sharing, you can engage an entire online class (or an individual) with this fun activity easily and efficiently.***

Here you have it, our very first (yet certainly not last) “Choose Your Own Adventure” style novel accessible for A1+ students and beyond.

We want to give students a chance to read a full-blown story rather than just snippets from textbooks or reading activities.

So, we decided to put together a “Choose Your Own Adventure” novel. This method shortens the text into several small segments and facilitates comprehension. The student interacts with the text and experiences the adventure by making choices for the hero. Thanks to the way it is set up, it not only actively engages the reader but also creates the opportunity for him or her to repeat several passages, thus easing the way for full comprehension and retention.

This text can also be used in class as a group adventure for all your students to experience together. The necessary information is found inside the PDF.

I like this material because it’s interesting and I can use it with my lower-level students. It’s fun for all of us.

Great resource! It made my students enthusiastic about reading! The first bit was a little bit strange though about “drinking too much pinapple juice” for the kids I taught, but it’s just fine.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
