Who says what? Imperatives A1

This imperatives poster activity is intuitive and a simple way to discover, review and practice imperatives with your A1 students. Just got through that little lesson in the textbook, but their practice activity isn’t very inspirational or engaging? Throw this on your screen or projector and let the students go.

The basic premise is simple: students must match the imperative sentences with their speaker. That puts the target language in context. Used as a discovery tool, you could then have the students determine what form of the verb is used in each sentence. Does it change? No! Because it’s imperative and very simple.

Once the matching is complete, have students write down one imperative sentence for each character on the poster. Then, take turns with each student shouting out one of their sentences. The others must match the speaker. Write each sentence they say into the corresponding box below the character.

If you want to go further, or your students are a bit more advanced, you could have them explain why the speaker says what they say. Though, at this level, that could be too complex for your A1s.
