ESL Discussion: Unclaimed Baggage

Unclaimed Baggage, located in Alabama, buys unclaimed baggage from airlines and then sells it in their enormous second-hand store.

Sometimes we hit on some heavy subjects for our discussion worksheets. And other times not so much. Today is the latter. However, this exposé on a unique American business generates plenty to talk about! Unclaimed Baggage, located in Alabama, buys unclaimed baggage from airlines and then sells it in their enormous second-hand store. All the inventory comes from this unique source, and the items can be quite surprising. Discussion themes include entrepreneurship, family and charity. Give it a go!

Warm-up idea: As a group, go around the room and pack a suitcase with 20 items. Even better play the suitcase game. Students Finish the phrase “In my suitcase, I’ve got…” and add an item. The next student must repeat all the items from the previous students in the correct order before adding their own.

After watching the video the first time, ask the students if they would like to shop here and why or why not.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
