Mean Karen: A Christmas Phrasal Verbs Game

Students compete to be the meanest, most Christmas-hating Karen in the class in this fun Christmas phrasal verbs game.

There was some period of my life where I hated Christmas. I can hardly remember when it was now… teenage years I’d reckon. I complained about the fake kindness, the empty gifts, the horrible music and seeing family. Now I wait all year long for December 1 to roll around so we can start listening to Christmas music every morning. Our Karen, on the other hand, hates Christmas. In this Christmas phrasal verbs game, students will compete to be the meanest, most Christmas-hating Karen in the class.

The phrases on the worksheet are meant to pop out of a typical conversation related to Christmas time or the holiday season. As the teacher, choose a phrase, say it out loud to your students, and then give them a time limit to create the meanest, most Christmas-hating response they can muster.

Everyone has the chance to present their response to the class, which will then vote on the worst Karen. The added grammatical bonus of this Christmas phrasal verbs worksheet is, well, the phrasal verbs. Every statement contains at least one. Think about highlighting or making note of each one, or let your students figure them out in context.
