Around Town Reading Exercise
Read and answer questions about 6 neighborhoods in Indy (my hometown!) in this online friendly or printable around town reading exercise.
This was pretty fun to put together because I got to be nostalgic about my hometown. Not that it matters to your students, but these are 6 real neighborhoods in Indianapolis, Indiana. Most of the details are accurate, but I fudged some things to make sure this around town reading exercise would be useful for your students 🙂
This activity introduces some adverbs of quantity and qualitative adjectives related to city vocabulary (lively, dirty, touristy, etc.). This activity presents some of my ideas on 6 neighborhoods in Indianapolis which your students will read and then answer the true/false/don’t know table to prove their comprehension.
Instructions
Students should complete the reading activity alone, but you could also have them take turns reading aloud the 6 descriptions. I’m always a fan of having students read aloud! Next, give your students time to complete the table at the bottom. The “don’t know” column is for information that was not explicitly mentioned in the descriptions.
Once completed, correct the answers as a group. Then, ask students to respond to the question at the bottom “Which neighborhood would you like to live in?” in writing, orally, or as homework.
