Past Simple Text Messages

While it may look like our other SMS Games, this particular one functions more like our Dialogue Building Blocks activities. Why? To keep it interesting, I suppose.

It’s a very simple premise. Put students in pairs and give them a time limit to use some of the text messages on the poster to create a dialogue. Have each pair end their dialogue with their own written message in the “My message” section. Next, have all the pairs share their dialogue with the group. Finally, switch partners and repeat! Repeat the activity as many times as you’d like as there are many different combinations your students can choose from.

To go further, think about writing a long text message dialogue as a class, each student taking turns writing in the chat back and forth. How long can your class make the dialogue?

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
