A fun game using SMS messages and emoticons to practice writing and conversation skills with your A1-A2 students.
The SMS game is essentially a micro English SMS writing activity designed to work on your students’ interactive writing skills on a small scale and in a quick way. Grammatical constraints, a wide variety of themes and comical contexts make this a lifelong resource you can pull out in a variety of lessons and with a multitude of groups.
In general, even if students are able to master specific grammatical themes or structures necessary to formulate correct sentences, they often find it difficult to react naturally in conversation. However, this ability is indispensable when it comes to everyday life in an English speaking environment.
This game is composed of printable cards containing SMS messages to which students must react as if in a real-time situation along with CONSTRAINT and CONTEXT cards to orient students’ responses. It is a tool you can use in order to review a mixed bag of vocabulary and grammatical structures and to awaken your students’ spontaneity by responding to informal SMS messages. It was designed as an English SMS writing activity for A1 and A2 students but can also be used for more advanced levels.
