Well, Say Something! Rules

Functional language: Rules
Skill: Speaking
Topic: General

Students will react to, respond to and explain a number of rules they find on this edition of the Well, Say Something! activity.

There are three ways to use this activity:

  1. The first is to share the poster with the class, via screen share, or on the table or with a projector. Next, call on a student at random and ask them to secretly choose a rule and explain why it’s a good rule. The other students must guess which rule they are talking about.
  2. Start the same as the first, but this time let students explain why it’s a bad idea.
  3. Let students react to each rule as if they are in front of the person telling them. Maybe they agree, maybe they disagree, maybe they mock the speaker, etc.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
