This Verbs and Prepositions Activity for Beginners assembles the 21 verb and preposition combinations your A2 students need to know.
There are a lot of verbs and prepositions combinations out there, but we chose this set of 21 verbs for our Verbs and Prepositions Activity for Beginners by cross-referencing them with Cambridge A2 Key tests and the Cambridge English Profile database. These are the 21 combinations your A2 students need to know!
Instructions
- Play as a class, in pairs, or in small groups. Display the PDF on your screen or print out a copy for each group.
- Students will take turns reading a phrase on the page and then giving their opinion by answering the question: What do you think? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? The phrases are basic situations one might encounter in everyday life, with their families, friends or oneself.
- Students are encouraged to explain why they believe it is a bad thing or a good thing, thus reinforcing the verb and preposition combinations through repetition and speech.
- The combinations on this Verbs and Prepositions Activity for Beginners are highlighted in red for easy reference. It also gives examples of when and where to put objects with these combinations.
Brendan is 16 and isn’t thinking about his future.
Student 1: I think it’s a bad thing because now is the time he should start thinking about what he wants to do and make plans for the future!
Student 2: No, it’s fine, he’s so young! He doesn’t need to think about his future right now. He should be thinking about something fun to do tonight!
