Present Perfect with Yet and Already
Tired of fill-in-the-blank worksheets? Here’s a better way to practice present perfect with yet and already. Students make to-do lists and compare them in pairs. Have you filled up your gas tank yet?
Welcome to day 6 of our present perfect activities giveaway! Today we’ve got an activity where students will practice the present perfect with yet and already. Your students have some big events coming up in their lives, have they prepared for them yet?
How to use it?
First thing’s first, this game was designed for your online ZOOM classroom, but it works just as well as a printable in your offline classroom, too.
Display the PDF or send a copy to your students. Put your students in teams or pairs. Choose one of the cards on the worksheet and read it out loud to your students. Give them a time limit (3-5 minutes) to come up with a to-do list for the given situation. Then, put your students in pairs to compare answers. Give them the three constructions, “Have you… yet?”, “Yes, I’ve already done that.”, “No, I haven’t done that yet.” Students will take turns asking their partner “Have you… yet?” based on their own to-do list while their partner answers. Every time the pair has a matching task on their to-do list, they score a point. Once they finish, bring them back to the group and compare the answers students didn’t have in common as a class.
Your final exams are tomorrow.
To-do list:
Read my notes for class.
Email the professor for an extension.
Set my alarm clock.
Go to bed early.Questions from partner 2:
Q: Have you set your alarm clock?
A: Yes, I’ve already done that.Q: Have you prepared for the test?
A: Yes, I’ve already read my notes for class.Q: Have you prepared a good breakfast for tomorrow?
A: No, I haven’t done that yet. Great idea!
Now, feel free to use this present perfect activity in any way you see fit and if you come up with any great ideas, be sure to share them in the comments below.
