Present Perfect Affects the Present
Students give explanations with a limited set of verbs in present perfect to explain the current situation.
Welcome to day 5 of our present perfect activities giveaway! Today we’ve got an activity where students will practice making present perfect statements in order to explain a current situation. This will help your students understand how the present perfect affects the present situation.
How to use it?
First thing’s first, this game was designed for your online ZOOM classroom, but it works just as well as a printable in your offline classroom, too.
Display the PDF or send a copy to your students. Put your students in teams, pairs, or let them play individually. Assign each team one of the team columns at the bottom. Choose one of the cards at the top of the screen describing the current situation. Then ask the question highlighted, “What have you done?” Give students a time limit to generate as many explanations using the verbs in their columns as possible.
Your hometown is completely different and it’s the mayor’s fault. What has he done?
They mayor has sold the football stadium and now it’s empty.
He has spent all of our money on his luxurious lifestyle.
He has forgotten to take care of the parks.
Now, feel free to use this present perfect activity in any way you see fit and if you come up with any great ideas, be sure to share them in the comments below.
