This online-friendly and printable Physical Appearance Speaking Activity is designed for A2 students to practice and B1 students to master describing physical appearance, including clothing, facial features, and overall looks. The activity is an engaging and interactive way for students to practice their speaking skills while discussing a wide range of roles and imagining the ideal person who fits these roles based on physical characteristics.

How It Works:

The game includes 11 cards, each representing a unique role such as “Game show presenter,” “CEO of a big international corporation,” “Buddhist monk,” and “High school math teacher.” Students, whether working individually, in pairs, or in groups, will be tasked with describing the ideal physical appearance of someone who would best fit that role.

1. Preparation: Students are given a specific amount of time to discuss among themselves and decide on the ideal physical features of a person who would fit the role, including their clothing, facial features, and body type.

2. Writing Phase: After the discussion, students write down their ideas, focusing on using detailed vocabulary and descriptive language for physical appearance.

3. Presentation & Discussion: Finally, students present their ideas to the class, discussing how individuals, pairs, or groups can have different interpretations of the ideal candidate for each role.

Variants to Add Variety:

1. Classmate Role Selection: Instead of describing an imaginary person, students can choose a classmate who they believe best fits each role. After choosing, they will present their chosen classmate to the class, explaining why they fit the role based on their physical appearance.

2. Guess the Role: One student describes the physical features of someone who could fit a certain role, and the other students guess the role being described. This variant encourages listening and deduction while reinforcing vocabulary.

3. Speed Round Challenge: Set a timer for each round (e.g., 3 minutes) during which students must describe the physical features of the role as quickly and accurately as possible. After the round ends, students move on to the next role card. This adds excitement and a competitive edge to the activity.

4. Celebrity Roulette: Choose a card and let students name some local or international celebrities who would fit. Will they all agree?

5. Visual Comparison: Use real or fictional images to compare with the role descriptions. Students can find images of people online or from magazines, matching their descriptions to visual examples and discussing any differences in their choices.
