How they got there: Adjective Preposition Collocation Writing Exercise

A handy writing exercise to practice 14 crucial adjective preposition collocations.

Looking to practice adjective preposition collocations and writing at the same time? Fairly specific, yes, but your dream has finally come true. In this simple writing exercise, students will have to write short biographies about “fictional” celebrities. The activity comes with four well-known people on it, but you could expand it with your own ideas, too. The printable and online-friendly PDF also includes 14 of the most commonly used adjective preposition collocations (think, good at, afraid of, interested in, worried about, etc.) and a small area to write their biographies.

Why have I only included men on this page of celebrities? Because that way, when your students write their biographies and present them to the class, they can simply use the pronoun he which makes the guessing portion a bit more intriguing. Ah yes, you can play it like that, too! Give your students some time to write their biography and then read it to the class for them to guess who they are talking about!

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
