Reading and Basic Verbs

Skill: Reading
Topic: General

Use this activity to introduce your very beginner students to some basic verbs and their present simple conjugations for he/she/it along with “don’t” and “doesn’t”.

This activity can be used to discover present simple conjugations (he/she/it) for some basic verbs and the use of “don’t” and “doesn’t” for negation. It also represents the first real reading comprehension exercise that you can offer to learners.

Ask your learners to read the text and answer the multiple-choice questions. Then, ask them to complete the box in the corner. This is initially about finding conjugated forms in the text and then identifying the conjugation rules.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
