Which Hobby Is Better?
Which hobby is better? Why is that? Do your students agree? Find out while mastering the art of comparing in English.
How to use this activity?
First of all, the point of the activity is to get students to compare and contrast different hobbies. It’s simple enough and useful for A1 students. It’s based on The Duel, a resource which you can use to practice comparatives of different types in your classroom.
As you can see, there are numbered cards with 2 different hobbies or free time activities. The activities on the card are related somehow – running and swimming, reading and music, the violin and the piano, etc. Students will spend the first round of play comparing the activities on the cards.
But wait, there’s more! I’m always looking for creative ways to add replay value to my activities. Do you see it? Look closer… Yes, I’ve managed to arrange the cards in such a way that there are other sets of pairings that seem completely random. Just look for 2 blue words that are very close to one another – bungee jumping and reading, painting and surfing, roller blading and gardening, etc.
BAM! Now you’ve got another comparison game. What do painting and surfing have in common, huh?
