Put Together an Outfit in English
For those beginners of yours! Students must get from start to finish while they put together an outfit in English. Practice clothes and accessories vocabulary with this simple ESL board game.
Instructions
Put together an outfit in English online with whiteboard tools or offline as a printable!
- Display the board for everyone to see, or print a copy for each group. Create game pieces for each player with your whiteboard tools or use random objects if offline.
- Students take turns moving their game piece to get to the other side while putting together an outfit for the day. Students can only move diagonally! And, I would say, no two game pieces can inhabit the same article of clothing (depending on the number of players).
- Once students get to the other side, they must once again describe their complete outfit. Students can vote on the best one.
- You might think about giving an objective for the outfit: Is it cold outside? Are you going to the opera? Meeting your significant other’s parents? Is it summer time? etc.

Thank you very much for all these creative resources. I loved all of them and could you be so kind as to tell the order of the steps taken while playing this game? I mean, I don’t quite understand what it means to move diogonally in this game or why do they have to get to the other side.

Check out the description for details on how to play this game. Here are the basics:
Students should begin on the left side, where it says “start” and their goal is to put together an outfit by moving towards the finish line on the right. To make it harder, they cannot go straight across the board, and therefore move diagonally (not up, left, or right) to add an article of clothing to their outfit. By the end, they will have put together their outfit for the day!
