Irregular Phrasal Verbs Activity
Irregular verbs are easy to forget, and phrasal verbs are hard to remember. So we put them together in this irregular phrasal verbs activity.
It’s day twelve of our 15 days of irregular verb activities and we’ve got an irregular phrasal verb activity ready to download. Each game board has 24 different phrasal verbs which utilize irregular verbs in their construction. This is a great activity for your more advanced students who want to discover, practice and review phrasal verbs with the added bonus of a small irregular verb review.
How it works
Students can play this irregular phrasal verbs activity as a class or in pairs. Display the PDF or send a copy to your students.
This is a classic “truth or lie” type activity. The speaker chooses a phrase on the board, reads it aloud, and then asks the question “And you?” either to their partner or to someone in the class. The responder must answer with one of the 4 circled phrases on the poster – me too, me neither, yes I have, no I haven’t. The speaker then must decide if the responder is telling the truth or not. If they are correct, they earn a point. For more advanced students, you can ask for justification – why do they believe the responder is telling the truth or lying? You can also ask the responder the give the truthful answer if they wish to give it!
The responder becomes the speaker, reads another phrase and then asks “And you?” to another student. Continue like this for as long as you want.
We have chosen these particular phrasal verbs because they show up often enough in spoken English and they use an irregular verb as their base. This activity can also act as a discovery tool for certain irregular phrasal verbs.
