Hello, 911? There’s been an accident! (The game of objects)
This activity is ideal when you are talking about health and fitness in your ESL classroom and want to practice everyday objects and real-life-ish dialogues!
How to use this activity
Play as a group or in pairs.
Students take turns being the patient. Give the patient a minute to choose an everyday object and invent a story about how it caused or was part of an accident.
The other student(s) will be the 911 operator. They will ask the series of questions presented in the middle starting from the first and most valuable. If the 911 responder can guess the object, they earn that many points. If they can guess the particulars of the accident, they get double points! Be sure to always let the patient describe the accident in full detail at the end of every turn.

Every language learner runs into the same problem: there are some words, for whatever reason, that are just really difficult to remember. What’s more, they are often the names of objects we use every day! So, how to master the English vocabulary of everyday objects? This game gives your students the opportunity to discover and memorize these difficult yet quotidian objects!
This short and quick activity is ideal for your A2 students and above if you are talking about health and fitness in your ESL classroom. Whether you use it as a warm-up, a time-killer, or an end-of-lesson activity to introduce the next class, it’s a good alternative to the usual textbook conversation prompts and activities, which often overlook these very common objects!
