Who says what? Phrases in the classroom.
A0 (beginner) students discover phrases for the classroom and student-teacher interactions. Helpful for your students to speak exclusively in English.
This Phrases for the Classroom activity allows learners to discover the most important phrases for A0 (beginner) students used in class during teacher-student interactions and among students. The phrases are useful to get your students to speak exclusively in English from the very first lessons.
The activity is preferably done in a large group. Give each learner the a copy of the activity and ask them to take turns organizing the phrases as indicated (for the teacher, for the student, for both). When making their suggestion, the learner is expected to pronounce the entire phrase. The teacher corrects the pronunciation and invites them to repeat if necessary. The rest of the class confirms or denies the suggestion (by responding: “Yes, that’s correct” or “No, that’s not correct”).
Once all the phrases have been organized, you can suggest to the class to play short scenes where they take on the roles of both the teacher and the student.
Or, you can have all students write their own sentence for each character. Then, take turns having students read their sentences out loud. The other students must guess who says what.
