The Calendar and Clock Game – Jobs & Work
Challenge your students’ general knowledge and math skills while reviewing useful phrases to talk about work.
How to use this activity
It’s as easy as it gets!
Students play individually. Display the game and call out a number. Give your students some time to respond to the card in the chat.
- The opinion cards are only there to generate a quick discussion, so no points are awarded.
- The knowledge cards award 2 points to any student who correctly answers.
- The puzzle cards award 3 points to the first student to answer correctly.
Play until all the cards have been used. The student with the most points at the end wins.
For example:
Card 1 (opinion) – What is the busiest time of the year for your profession? – “For me, Christmas is definitely the busiest time of the year because we have to sell a lot of products before the holidays” (zero points awarded)
Card 11 (knowledge) – When is Labor Day celebrated in the United States? – “In the US, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September.” (two points awarded)
Card 12 (puzzle) – Gretchen starts work at a quarter past 3 in the afternoon. Her shift lasts 6 and a half hours. When does she get off? – “I think she gets off work at a quarter to 9” (zero point awarded – she gets off at 9:45)
