The 2021 Ig Nobel Prizes – Scientific Research

Ever heard of the Darwin awards? While in a similar comedic vain, the Ig Nobel prizes are for silly, yet serious, scientific researchers. This lesson plan discusses scientific research in English with an article explaining a specific study from the Ig Nobel prizes. It comes with a link to the authentic material in the PDF. If you are using this for an online course, I would recommend sending everyone a copy before starting so they can easily follow along.

Thanks for that activity. What level do you think we can use it for? B1 or even B2?

I have used it with B2 and C1 students and they love it.
B1 students, on the other hand, had a much harder time following the article.
The final part of the activity, with the questions and discussions about the list of 2021 Ig Nobel prizes would be a better substitute for B1 level students as the text is more straightforward and they can focus on some more science-y vocabulary. Let us know how it goes with either group!
