Going Minimalist

Use this task-based interactive activity to have your students make tough choices in order to go minimalist.

The instructions are right on the activity, but just in case, here are a few ways to use it:

  • Display the PDF to your students and give them some time to make their decisions. Come back as a group to discuss.
  • Send students the PDF so they can use the interactivity on their side of the computer. Take turns having students explain their choices by reading what they have written in the text boxes.
  • Send students the PDF and then put them into breakout rooms of pairs or small groups. Now, they must complete the task but as a group. Hard decisions will have to be made…
  • Not enough time in class to complete the activity? Send the PDF as a homework assignment and do presentations at the beginning of the next class.
  • Share the PDF in a virtual whiteboard and let the students work as a class or in small groups.
  • Got any other technologically advanced ideas? Let us know in the comments below.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
