The Interview – Making Questions

Your classroom is suddenly full of aspiring journalists and celebrities from different fields. Use this interactive PDF online or print it out to practice question-making and conversation.

The Interview

The Interview is one of the activities found in Vocabtivate: Introductions. This interactive PDF makes it even easier to share it in your online classroom. Display, screen share, add to a virtual whiteboard or send to your students in order to use the interactive functionality during an online lesson or for homework to prepare for a future lesson. The possibilities are abundant and we hope you find the best way to use it for you.

Instructions

  1. Put students in pairs. Students will take turns being interviewer and interviewee.
  2. Each student must prepare six questions to interview the other student based on the theme of the magazine they write for (found on the “JOURNALIST” profiles).
  3. Then, students take turns playing the role of journalist. They pose their 6 questions and note the responses on the response line in the PDF.
  4. From here, you can do a few different things:
  • Have students display their interviews one at a time for others to see. The other students can vote on their favorite question or response, etc.
  • Have every student screenshot their interview and copy and paste it onto a Google Jamboard frame or other virtual whiteboard tool.
  • Have students correct each other’s writing mistakes.
  • Have yours students send you their completed PDF and correct their mistakes at home yourself.
  • Talk about what makes a good interview question, then write 6 great interview questions as a class.

I have been teaching English abroad since receiving my CELTA certificate in Poland in 2018. I enjoy tracking my individual students’ development but love having lessons with big groups! Now that I teach online, I am accompanied by my sidekicks Olaf, Mała, Pirate and Bandit on a regular basis.

It takes a team of 13 to create and produce this material. In order for that to continue, please think about purchasing your own subscription to ESL Expertz and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We appreciate your confidence and support!
